    hormonal-imbalance-womanHormone imbalance in woman

The ovaries produce many hormones, most notably estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. The ovarian hormones estrogen and progesterone interact to coordinate a woman’s menstrual cycle during her reproductive years. In the normal menstrual cycle, only estrogen is produced for the first 10-12 days. Ovulation then tells the female body to produce progesterone, and the hormones are in balance. Progesterone sustains the endometrium, so it can receive a fertilized egg if pregnancy occurs. If there’s no pregnancy, then the body stops producing both hormones, and menstruation occurs

The brain produces the hormones follicle stimulating hormones (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) which trigger hormone production from the ovaries. When any of the hormones coming from the brain or the ovaries are imbalanced, hormone imbalance symptoms may occur. Imbalances are most common in puberty and menopause, but imbalances can happen at any age. Several conditions are well known to be associated with hormone imbalance including: polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, breast disease, and menstrual irregularities.

Hormones tested for hormonal balance in women:

    • Estrogens (estrone, estriol,estradiol)
    • Progesterone
    • Testosterone
    • DHEA

Your Rejuvenate Doctor will evaluate the levels of these hormones and prescribe bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) if necessary. The goal of BHRT is to help alleviate unpleasant menopausal symptoms and to slow down the aging process. BHRT restores hormonal balance to the body, which will improve the quality of your life.

    Symptoms of hormone imbalance include:

    • Acne or oily skin
    • Bloating
    • Bone density loss
    • Osteoporosis
    • Decreased fertility
    • Depression
    • Excess facial and body hair
    • Hot flashes
    • Night sweats
    • Heavy, painful or irregular periods
    • PMS (premenstrual syndrome)
    • Dysmenorrhea
    • Fibrocystic breast disease
    • Irritability
    • Loss of muscle tone (that “flabby” feeling)
    • Loss of hair
    • Reduced libido (sex drive)
    • Memory lapses
    • Mood swings
    • Nervousness
    • Poor concentration
    • Insomnia
    • Tender or fibrocystic breasts
    • Urinary incontinence
    • Vaginal dryness
    • Weight gain
    • Arteriosclerotic heart disease

    How does hormonal imbalance occur?

If you don’t ovulate one month (a typical premenopause event) then the estrogen already produced for that month is never balanced by progesterone, which can only be produced with ovulation. Estrogen is still produced in the monthly cycle (you’ll have a monthly period), but a missed ovulation means no progesterone is made. This is known as estrogen dominance and this unbalanced estrogen is toxic! Many women in their early 30′s and 40′s are actually in premenopause and are therefore producing estrogen, but little or no progesterone.

Bio-identical hormones, when connected to their receptors, fit perfectly, like a key in a lock. This is due to their chemical structure which is identical to the hormones made by the human body. Synthetic hormones or horse hormones have a different chemical structure than hormones produced by the human body. When they connect to the hormone receptor, they do not fit; and by distorting the receptor, synthetic and horse hormones create many unpleasant side effects.

    Bio-identical hormones for women

hormones-womanThe major hormones usually given to treat hormone imbalances in women through BHRT are progesterone, estrogens, testosterone and DHEA. These hormones are often referred to as “sex hormones” since they influence the development of sexual characteristics starting at puberty. Their precursor is cholesterol and they belong to the category of hormones known as steroid hormones. It is actually a misconception that cholesterol is always bad. The right amount of cholesterol is critical for the synthesis of progesterone, estrogens, testosterone and DHEA. The reason many people have high cholesterol as they age is due to the fact that their body’s production of progesterone, estrogens, testosterone and DHEA decreases. The declined levels of production of these steroid hormones cause an excess of cholesterol circulating in the body.

    Hormone balancing is easy

At Rejuvenate Doctor hormonal imbalances in women are detected by medical testing. Medical testing evaluates all major hormones (sex hormones, adrenal hormones and thyroid hormones) to determine which are out of optimal range. All hormones in the body work in synergy, if only a few hormones are replaced, the imbalance of other hormones may actually worsen. Rejuvenate Doctor integrates bio-identical hormone replacement therapy with proper fitness and nutrition for patients suffering from hormone imbalances. As your hormones, nutrition, fitness and lifestyle improve you will start to feel like your old self again with improved energy levels, increased sexual desire and an overall zest for life!
